World Series Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined over 50 million watchers in the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB announced this marks the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a 16% increase compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game landed in 13th position.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a single network in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match series recorded 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the complete American average reached 16.1 million. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and the network’s best postseason performance since 2017.

MLB announced that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
